What a fantastic days' ride; only short, 4 and a bit hours, but rode some truly amazing roads through the valley of mountains, alongside initially the canals of Belgium and Germany and then the rivers in Switzerland.
Our 1st stop was in a supermarket coffee shop to have a bit of breaky and coffee. An excellent choice of freshly made sandwiches and croissants, so filled up on these for the day!!
Bit of a weirdo spying on us for the whole time! little strange.

We then headed south toward Basel, which was the most manic and franetic city we have ridden in - it was a free for all! Plenty of car dodging and a million set of lights to navigate, let alone the random lane changes required, the diversions due to road closures and then the border crossing into Switzerland!! Another adventure though.
Roadside cafe once again, for a short pit stop and top up of much needed liquid!

We started to see the hills/mountains of Germany and even picked up signs for Freiburg, so we knew we were pretty far south.
We then headed for the Swiss roads and rode through beautiful villages and towns stopping only once in a very lovely cafe before we started the ascent to our hotel.
It was a bit rustic but nonetheless very welcome.
The weather had gone from 9 degrees to 20 degrees, but soon cooled down again once we rose into the clouds. In the distance we saw the snow covered mountains that we are meant to be going through tomorrow, but it looks like the main passes are closed due to snow, so we're having to re-think our route to Lake Comover!
We only did a 4 hour ride today, after yesterday's marathon we wanted a short days' ride. Also tomorrow is going to be a biggy so best to take it easy today.
Schlossberg-bori Place tonight looks pretty rough when you arrive, but I kid you not, the bedrooms are some of the best we've ever stayed in - what a genuine and very pleasant surprise!!

Obviously had to have a couple of beers before unpacking. Quick Chat with Nobby, Dani & Geth (Dani put the phone down on purpose as she wasn't liking what she was hearing about our trip ๐๐๐) and then off to discover the truly gorgeous rooms!!

As an added bonus to this very comfortable hotel; the food was really good too! It's place that just keeps giving!

The Gasthof Schlosserberg had smashed it out of the park. The owner was so friendly and very proud, quite rightly, of her gaff. The hotel was full so despite the tired look of the outside everything was just perfect - even the tired look didn't offend ๐๐๐
